MONROE COUNTY, Pa. — The Monroe County Habitat for Humanity re-store in Marshalls Creek is always getting donations. This stack of furniture was given to the non-profit by RAJ Investments.
“Who bought the Pocono Palace Resort up 209, and they donated over twenty-two thousand in brand new furniture to us,” said Scott Fabian, Monroe Co. Habitat for Humanity Executive Director.
Now, some of that furniture will help veterans feel more at home. Volunteers loaded up the truck for the Valor Clinic Foundation with coffee tables, lamps, and televisions just a few of the items needed to fill a new place to live.
“The vets that we deal with were homeless before; they were living in the woods, and the VA helps get them into an apartment, and we come in and refurbish the place top to bottom.. give them furniture so they can start all over,” said Christian Mora, Valor Clinic Household Goods Manager.
“Life is a team sport. We have to all work together; we are stronger together than just working as an island,” said Fabian.
Mora says the Valor Clinic has helped furnish the apartments of 35 veterans so far this year; last year, the organization helped about 115.
Volunteers say a donation like this will give the veterans they serve peace of mind.
“It’s a lot off of their back, so they don’t have to use their resources to buy the furniture, they can use it for other stuff. So, it brings comfort to them,” said Mora.
“Living in a home gives you stability and a sense of worth and dignity, and that is so important in today’s world,” said Fabian.
The Valor Clinic Foundation also collects furniture donations from the community.
