MONROE COUNTY, Pa. — Presents line the halls of Family Promise of the Poconos, ready to be unwrapped this holiday. But an extra special delivery has come.

Monroe County Habitat for Humanity unloaded more than half a dozen bed frames to the non-profit.

“So we had a number of beds that were donated to our Re-store, and we thought it was important to reach out to the other non-profit if they had specific needs,” said Scott Fabian with Monroe County Habitat for Humanity.

Family Promise definitely has specific needs to help families who have been homeless but are moving into a new home after spending time at the shelter. Director Timaki Johnson says they have two families who recently signed leases.

“We can always purchase a mattress for the family, but they go in with nothing when they come into shelter or are in the process of being evicted, things like that they don’t think about the essentials they have or don’t have,” said Johnson.

With a new place to live comes the next step of making it feel like home furnishing it. The non-profits say something as simple as a bed frame can help families transition into their next chapters of life.

“They can say it’s it is cozy, we provide the blankets as well as pillows for them. Just having your own bed to sleep in instead of a car or on the streets is a wonderful thing for us, and I know the kids are happy, too,” said Johnson.

“Monroe County Habitat for Humanity believes that we need to help each other it’s a hand up not a hand out and live is a team sport so it is important that we help each other as non-profits,” said Fabian.

Monroe County Habitat for Humanity will make another donation of bed frames to help even more children and their families.
