Although the Pocono Palace closed its doors last year, a legendary piece of its history could soon find a new home, maybe even yours.
Monroe County Habitat for Humanity is raffling off an iconic heart-shaped tub, a nostalgic piece of the Poconos’ legacy as the “honeymoon capital of the world,” according to Scott Fabian, executive director of Monroe County Habitat for Humanity.
“This is such a fun raffle,” Fabian said.
Fabian said the tubs, donated by Raj Investments, the company that purchased the former Pocono Palace, will help raise funds to support Habitat’s mission of providing safe, affordable and equitable housing in Monroe County.
One of the four tubs will be placed on display at the Habitat ReStore (located at 2610 Milford Road, East Stroudsburg), while the other three are set be raffled off. One is being raffled now, and the other two will be Valentine’s Day raffles.
He emphasized that the raffle isn’t just about nostalgia, it’s a meaningful way to support local families. “This will help us repair homes and put families in low to very low income into homeownership,” he said.
Fabian said that as of July 28, more than 100 tickets have already been sold within the first five days of the raffle’s launch.
Tickets are $5 for one, $10 for three and $20 for 10.
The drawing for the current raffle will take place live on Facebook on Monday, Sept. 1, at 12 p.m.
The deadline to purchase tickets is Aug. 29 at 12 p.m. To learn more and enter the raffle, visit www.habitatmc.com.
